Thanks to a partnership announced Tuesday, DreamWorks Animation is teaming up with Digital Domain to produce virtual reality content and experiences for the family entertainment company's most iconic and legendary characters.
The partnership will begin with the worlds of Shrek and Kung Fu Panda in VR, with other franchises planned in the coming months.
"For over two decades, DreamWorks Animation has been entertaining audiences with some of the most original stories and beloved characters in entertainment," said Rich Flier, Managing Director, Digital Domain Holdings Limited. "We are honored to be a part of bringing that great legacy to virtual reality audiences worldwide."
I'm really curious as to what kind of VR experience DreamWorks is planning for this. None of these news outlets seem to know yet. I think it'd be pretty cool to be whisked away to some of the film locations, maybe have Po teach some kung fu and have the player perform it. There's really lots that could be done. As a matter of fact, there was a pretty nifty Star Wars VR game demo recently released, and it would be amazing if DreamWorks could get this project up to that kind of detail.
