History

Shifu examining Tigress' "cold"

In the episode "Scorpion's Sting," Tigress was seen constantly sneezing and coughing while in the Training Hall with Po, Master Shifu, and the rest of the Furious Five. Po and Monkey made fun of her symptoms by pretending to catch Tigress's "cold", though she denied that she had one. When Shifu examined Tigress, he declared that it indeed wasn't a cold, but rather River Fever. Po saw no reason to worry, sharing how he went through the same symptoms as a kid, noting how it all went away the very next day.

However, Crane informed him that the illness is worse when one gets it as an adult (startling Po with a painting of what the sickness did to a pig), and he declared that the only known cure was tea made from the sacred Sun Orchid. He also told Tigress; though was severely hesitant and only did so after she forcefully picked him up and demanded answers; that, if uncured, she would be unable to do Kung Fu, and at sundown the fever would become fatal.

Tigress later showed other symptoms of River Fever, such as sudden muscle spasms, which caused her to suddenly punch and kick at random (usually resulting in her hitting Crane), and eventually overall weakness, as she was seen laying down, too weak to move (save for when she had muscle spasms). A sick ward was made in the Training Hall for Tigress as well as children with River Fever, and Mr. Ping, acting as a clown to entertain them, later mentioned that four out of five herbalists recommend noodle soup for River Fever.

Eventually, Tigress was cured when Po and Monkey retrieved the sun orchid as sundown approached, resulting in Tigress consuming the flower whole as there was no time to make it into tea. Tigress made a nearly immediate recovery afterwards, cured of the illness, and able to do Kung Fu again with ease.

Trivia

  • Some of the conditions and symptoms of this disease share similarities to that of the common cold and chickenpox as it can only be contracted once in a lifetime and is relatively harmless as a child, but can be very harmful, even fatal as an adult.
