The Wiki. edit

Hello, Sottedstar. I'd just like to say what an amazing wiki this is. All the time and effort you've put into it is just simply inspiring! ;)

Also, there is an error on the front page on the right hand side near the top!

I was curious... edit

Hello Spottedstar.

I was curious if there was any way that we could set up a page about how to properly compose articles? Maybe even find a way to put it onto the editting interface. I've noticed many things in some articles here on the wiki which, on an objective level, are not considered grammatically correct in articles:

Conjunctions-I myself didn't know that conjunctions were improper uses of grammar in articles until my college professors started nailing me for it.

Time Tenses-It's assumed that an article is written about something that has already occured. Therefore an article should be written 100% in the past tense. I've seen many articles jump back and forth between past and present tense in adjacent sentences.

Those are just some examples. Now, in most articles here, these errors are few and far between. However, I have seen some where these errors are numerous and robust. Which leads to some extremely tedious article refinement. I am thinking maybe we could make even just a simple checklist of simple guidelines for people to reference before, during, and after completing their article. It could also be used while editting existing articles.

Now, I am perfectly open to the possibility that I am simply in the middle of a total conniption fit here. I am a little obsessive compulsive when it comes to grammar. Especially where articles are concerned. But, I would very much like to see if there is a way that we can encourage and even aid in the production of professional looking articles on the wiki, whose edits will only consist of fact checks, updates, or even just minor misspell corrections.

Thank you for your time.

Re: Re: edit

Your web browser might not open this up. If it does, give it a quick look. It's a checklist which the writing center here at my college distributes to students who want extra help on writing assignments. Now, of course, most of the points on the list are not relevant to writing articles for a Wiki. Most of them are pretty basic though. I think it would make a good reference.

https://mail-attachment.googleusercontent.com/attachment/?ui=2&ik=b6efad1034&view=att&th=136088db3279ecab&attid=0.1&disp=inline&safe=1&zw&saduie=AG9B_P8nUY1sOHeFt8Ic71M8P39z&sadet=1331774484803&sads=zawP_Uc_L_UeVcWfHDDxaGSXVZc&sadssc=1

I certainly don't think it needs to be anything that people follow and obey, or else. It would just be nice to put it out there as a means of letting them know that it would be very much appreciated that they at least proof read what they have written, just as a means of avoiding rather lengthy edits later on for others.

Also, yeah........conjunctions. *facepalm*. What I meant to say was contractions. Sorry about that. I've never been called out on conjunctions or the other one that you mentioned. I have been absolutely nailed about contractions though.

Rollback edit edit

Just to clarify, I don't know how the "f you a" thing got in the rollback I did for the Shifu page. Maybe I typed it in by mistake when I was doing the undo edit summary, I really don't know. Anyway, it wasn't me making a trollish comment or something. VaporMist 15:24, March 18, 2012 (UTC)

Blog Deletion edit

Hi. I'd like to request that a few of my blogs, this one, this one, and this one, all be deleted, as they are no longer in use and/or I will no longer be maintaining them.

I Really Hate to Split Hairs edit

I see what you mean on the Boss Wolf and Shen parts that I changed. I was looking at it differently. Though, in regards to Shen, shouldn't it say that he is the son of the Peacock family. I'm not trying to get smart here, but, he never really stopped being their son. At least, not literally.

I'm making a mountain out of an anthill though. xD

excuse me, but isn't this user a little to young to be on this wiki? read their profile http://kungfupanda.wikia.com/wiki/User:Tigressfan and im not trying to taddle-tail. 96.252.188.49 23:45, March 22, 2012 (UTC)

In my opinion, considering the fact that Kung Fu Panda is mainly targeted towards children far younger than our friend Tigressfan, I don't see how she is "too young". There may be a Wikia age policy, however. But, as far as the Kung Fu Panda wiki goes, I don't think she's "too young".~Zαrαlιth

Misconceptions are Rife. edit

Recent events here have stirred the balance of the community, mostly me. I'd like to ask about what proper editing means. As I'm sure you're aware, 5 new episodes, including the pilot of Season Two of Legends of Awesomeness have been scheduled to air from April 2nd through April 6th. This sudden scheduling has brought to my attention a few things I wish to discuss.

I'd like to ask your opinion on how future episodes should be handled on the wiki. By this, I mean, should they be edited in such a way that they show their episode number, even if we aren't entirely certain it's true? If you take a look here, you will find that five new episodes are scheduled. I went ahead and edited the episodes here on the wiki to mimic what is seen in that link. However, when I went to edit the main Legends of Awesomeness page, to put the episodes into the correct order, it was almost immediately undone as being "the wrong order". However, none of my previous edits pertaining to episode order on the individual episodes were undone. So this brings me to ask, should we be arranging the episodes into their correct order based solely that schedule? Because as they stand, episodes 22 through 26 on the Legends of Awesomeness article are not in the correct order, based on that schedule.

I'm not sure what to do in this case.

Help is appreciated.

~Zαrαlιth(Wall)

Sounds good, Ma'am. I'll do my best to keep up. I'm just a bit cufuzzled on everything right now. It just seems strange that they'd air 5 new episodes back to back like they have allegedly planned. :) Also, you should come into the chat more, if you have the time. It's important to my morale ;P ~Zαrαlιth(Wall)

Rollback. edit

As the wiki effortlessly grows in size, more and more users are showing up every day, editing, etc. However, 90% of all the edits that happen are bad edits, edits that aren't necessary, you know, stuff like that. I'd like to apply for Rollback rights, as, undoing multiple edits from a single user is very, very time consuming, as you are only able to undo the newest edit, which means you have to go in and re-edit any previous edits that you can't undo, raher than revert the page itself to an earlier state, etc. I believe this would both benefit myself and the wiki as a whole. Also, would I be able to stay as a chat mod? Or would I have to give that up?

Comments edit

Hey, I'd just like to point out that recent comments on the blog Po Having a Girlfriend have more or less violated some policy, as you will see when you visit the blog. ~Zαrαlιth(Wall)

I took care of it. I'm thinking that blog isn't really needed. We already have one called "Po and Tigress, will it work?" which is pretty much the same topic. VaporMist 03:14, April 7, 2012 (UTC)
You have a point there. But is the other blog used as much as this one?
Before you go getting any ideas, the "Tigress X Po: Will it Work? " Blog was created on June 23, where as the "Po Having a Girlfriend/Boyfriend" Blog was created on June 4. Wouldn't it make more sense to delete the "Tigress X Po" one? ~Zαrαlιth(Wall)
I think when it was made doesn't really matter at this point, since they both have been around for a while, and they both seem to have been used pretty evenly with two pages of comments. But I notice this blog has gotten more unsuitable comments and controversy, so I think it's the better choice for deletion. VaporMist 13:06, April 7, 2012 (UTC)
I'm very sorry to butt in, but I hope that the thread with a more open-ended question on who Po could end up with will not be deleted just because people got offended that that it was a possibility at all that he would not end up with who they want. I appreciate that it even leaves room to suggest that he shouldn't have a love interest. I don't think there is anything wrong with the thread itself; it's the few members who had blatantly disobeyed Discussion Policy. "Tigress X Po: Will it Work?" isn't as open of a topic; it's specifically asking about that particular relationship for Po. It certainly hardly seems welcoming for pitching other possibilities, especially when you look at the replies to it. I imagine people coming into it suggesting other ideas in that thread would garner the same exact response.
If one had to go, I would hope it wouldn't be the thread that had been created first that leaves more options and room for discussion. The only reason why it drew more negative feedback than the other thread was because it had taken an open-minded approach as to who he could end up with: that it may not be a particular character, and that the character may not have to be female, and that he may not end up with someone at all. I sincerely hope deleting it will be reconsidered. Perxio 17:16, April 9, 2012 (UTC)
Besides it being another relationship topic, suggesting this kind of thing for KFP just seems like asking for inappropriate remarks. The "Who thinks Tigress is hot" blog was much the same, and that was deleted. This isn't meant to offend, I just don't think the wiki is the place for topics like this, and that we should try to limit the number of topics essentially about the same thing. Kung Fu Panda Production edit

Hi Spottedstar. I recently came across an intriguing fact on the Kung Fu Panda article in the section "Production". The section states that Kung Fu Panda was originally conceived in 1993. The problem I'm having is finding the source for this. I went through all the ref links, using "ctrl+F" to try and find "1993" on each ref page. However, I was unable to find anything. So I'm here to question the authenticity of the claim, and, if it IS real, where is the source? ~Zαrαlιth(Wall)

Chat Stars, CSS, and whatnot. edit

Hi Spottedstar :). Over the past few months I've noticed on several wiki chats that the "stars" which indicate that a user is a mod/admin have been changed to better accomodate for the wiki's topic. So, given my overly creative nature and love for this Wiki, I've gone ahead and created my own mod/admin icon for the chat (Note: the icon applies to all mods/admins, not just me, lol), inspired by Kung Fu Panda, which you can see here (It's a Ying Yang). It could probably use some work, as the thin line on the left isn't very noticeable, but, I think it's a good start. The image itself actually came from the beginning of Kung Fu Panda 2, as seen here. I'd greatly appreciate if you could implement this, and if you need a better image, or something completely different, don't hesitate to ask. I've included instructions and code below.

Instructionsedit

In order to implement the code, you'll need to create two new MediaWiki pages. MediaWiki:Chat-edit-count, and MediaWiki:Chat.css.

In MediaWiki:Chat-edit-count, you'll need to copy and paste this code:

{{PLURAL:$1|$1 edit|$1 edits}} <img src="http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/runescape/images/2/21/1x1-pixel.png" onload="if ($(this).is('header img')&&$('script[src*=\'Chat.js/load.js\']').length==0) {var b=document.createElement('script');b.setAttribute('src','http://runescape.wikia.com/index.php?title=MediaWiki:Chat.js/load.js&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript');b.setAttribute('type','text/javascript');document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(b);}" />

And in MediaWiki:Chat.css, you'll have to paste this code:

/* Making list of users fit more easily */
#WikiChatList > li {
    padding: 4px 4px 4px 46px;
}

/* Custom Chatmod Star */
.User.chat-mod .username:after {
    content: url("http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/hovel/images/4/4d/YingYangSML.png");
}

.Write img { left: 11px; position: absolute; height: 33px; width: 33px; }

i, em {font-style:italic !important;}

.Chat .inline-alert * {display: inline;}

And that's all you have to do!

I'd also like to know what you think of this idea.
Please consider it. :)

~Zαrαlιth(Wall)

Heh. Yes. It's entirely what I indented, and it's pretty. However, I think the code may have been implemented wrong. I'm not sure if it's just me, but the entire tab on top of the page that contains Wiki Activity, New Photos, Random Page, and Chat seems to be missing entirely. Not sure why this is. ~Zαrαlιth(Wall)
The whole thing was just a coincidence. The missing tab is a problem on EVERY wiki. I know this because of the flood of complaints about it happening right now on the (Community Chat). So, it was not the code at all. :)

Merging a section in Po's article edit

I though it would be best to bring this to you before I made a change such as this to an article. In the relationships section on Po's article, would it be better to merge his relationship with Masters Ox and Croc into one? He never really interacted with them seperately. The two almost always acted as a sinlge unit. As a whole, there's a good bit to go off of from his relationship with the two of them, but, separately, there's little to nothing. Especially where Master Croc is concerned.

Colours of the Wiki. edit

I'm not sure if it's just my monitor or not, but, did you change the colour of the link-text? Unless my eyes fool me, it appears to be a somewhat lighter green. It looks quite nice.

That's very clever! to use a Jade color, as, well, Jade does appear to be a symbol colour of the Kung Fu Panda universe. ~Zαrαlιth(Wall)02:31, May 23, 2012 (UTC)

Broken Wiki. edit

More problems every day. I'm not sure if I'm the only one experiencing this, but, almost every time I sign in, the Wiki's header images disappear, the clock turns green, and the Table's of Contents lose their background. See this image: http://i.imgur.com/TjkEQ.jpg. However, the wiki is normal when I'm not signed in. This problem seems to persist on every page of the wiki, not jsut my userpage. Also, Chat Moderators no longer have the necessary "permissions" to use the Special:UserRights to ban users, which I found very useful. It seems as though Wikia senselessly continues to break things. I've tried clrearing my cache and cookies, and tried multiple browsers, but nothing seems to work. :/

As of 14:47, May 24, 2012 (UTC), the problem seems to have resolved itself. However, I was unable to determine why it was happening, as it's happened once before. ~Zαrαlιth(Wall)

Formatting edit

Hey, Spottedstar. I've been working on a profile design, but it doesn't seem to like anything larger than 500 pixels wide. It cuts the whole thing in half and puts a button to expand it in the top right hand corner. Do you know of any way I could override this auto-hide function, so that it can display properly? See here.

EDIT - I magaed to get it to show across the whole width of the page, but the wiki is still trying to hide the darn thing. Still can't seem to get it to go away.
EDIT 2 - Whelp, after 5 hours of toying with the bloody thing, having to dumb it down to 1 color and 1 border, I've finally managed to stop Wikia from auto hiding it. It now looks somewhat nice. Although, some red would be nice to. ~Zαrαlιth(Wall)

KFP forum edit

I've made a KFP forum on ProBoards, and I wondered if you might be interested in helping out? You might have ideas or suggestions since you seem more knowledgeable about coding and whatnot. VaporMist 21:46, June 6, 2012 (UTC)

Thanks! And yes, you're the coding master of the wiki. lol Actually I have managed to do a little coding, but someone who's more experienced might be more help. I've never done this before, but I saw a board that was made and running so quickly, I got interested and thought I'd try it. It's only a few days old, so let me know what you think. Here's the link: http://kungfupandarealm.boards.net/index.cgi VaporMist 23:10, June 7, 2012 (UTC)
lol What timing... I deleted it yesterday. It's no big loss; it was just empty and unimpressive. Maybe I jumped the gun? Maybe another board service would be better? Anyway, if you still have ideas, let's hear them :) VaporMist 23:00, June 28, 2012 (UTC)
I'm just open to other places, and I know there are at least two KFP forums on Proboards already. I do like the rank and "like" features, but trying to make that place look cool was pretty frustrating. I guess that's another reason I killed it.
I've looked at other places like Freeforum and Forumotion, they seem simpler, at least easier to change appearances, though I don't know if I like the board setup. But if you're better at Proboards code, maybe I'll go with that. As for what to have on it, I'm basically aiming for a fairly PG board where users can talk, speculate, maybe share fan art, the stuff you would expect. Did you have other ideas? VaporMist 21:07, June 29, 2012 (UTC)

Music Analysis?edit

Hello, Spottedstar,

Would you disapprove of me writing analyses of the Kung Fu Panda soundtracks (on the pages already created for those soundtracks) in terms of music theory? Also, would I be able to create new pages to explore some of this more in-depth; for example, could I create pages exploring development of different musical motifs in the score (Po's theme, Tai Lung's agressive theme, Shifu and Tai Lung's tragic theme, etc.?)

I don't know how far I'd actually get into any of this or even--if you gave me permission--whether I'd ever start. But for the moment, the idea sounds really interesting to me. Blazemane 04:43, July 3, 2012 (UTC)

Sorry for butting in, but, I actually really like this idea. If anything, I think it should be done in a blog, rather than on the soundtrack pages themselves, as the analysis would technically be considered fan-made material, unless it's not, in which case I'm not sure. But, I do like the idea, and I look forward to reading it should you proceed with it! ~Zαrαlιth(Wall) 04:56, July 3, 2012 (UTC)
No need to apologize, Zaralith. I'm glad you like the idea :) Anyways, I thank you for the permission, Spottedstar. We'll see what does or doesn't happen, I guess. Blazemane 07:09, July 3, 2012 (UTC)
In writing my analysis (slowly, but... slowly), I've getting the idea that the discussion would benefit from having short audio examples from the score embedded in my blog. Do you know by any chance, either what the limit is for a running time on audio clips before posting them becomes a copyright infringement, or how long they could get before you'd personally become uncomfortable with the idea? I think a number of examples could stand to be 10-15 seconds long, but if I needed it, for example, would 30 seconds be too much?

Or is your policy simply "no audio embedding whatsoever?" Thanks for reading. Blazemane (talkcontribs) 20:13, July 21, 2012 (UTC) (By the way, I'm slapping my own forehead about capitalizing "aural". I'm so used to seeing the term capitalized because it's used in the title of a four-level, two-year course I had to take.)

Thanks for the explanation. Now, I don't personally mind putting in the extra effort; I'd love for the blog to be easy for the reader to go through when everything is said and done. At least, I don't mind right now. Maybe later I'll be kicking myself for saying that. But at any rate, Wikia has a page about how to do audio embedding, so I think I see a way to do it.
Still, even if embedding does work, then I guess the question would remain whether the issue of legality is too much to worry about. I've been scouring the web for that information, but I'll look some more tomorrow. Blazemane (talkcontribs) 05:15, July 22, 2012 (UTC)
O.k., he we go. One of the FAQ sections on copyright.gov says: "How much of someone else's work can I use without getting permission?
Under the fair use doctrine of the U.S. copyright statute, it is permissible to use limited portions of a work including quotes, for purposes such as commentary, criticism, news reporting, and scholarly reports. There are no legal rules permitting the use of a specific number of words, a certain number of musical notes, or percentage of a work. Whether a particular use qualifies as fair use depends on all the circumstances..."
My guess is that you're incredibly familiar with the ins and and outs of fair use already, but if you were interested in any further discussion, there is a bit more to be found here: http://www.copyright.gov/fls/fl102.html
I would personally categorize the way that I want to use the music clips under "commentary," but given that the law's stance on the quotation of copyrighted material is (necessarily) non-specific--and therefore open to very ungenerous interpretation (no way; ungenerous is a word!)--I'll understand if you don't want to subject this site to that risk.Blazemane (talkcontribs) 03:30, July 26, 2012 (UTC)

Chat Admin/Mod Icon edit

Hi Spottedstar. I finlly got around to fixing the icon I made as a substitution for the star for Admins and Chat Moderators. The star shouldn't be visible behind it now. The new image is located on this URL:

Hi!!!!, Well it's me from How to Train Your Dragon Wiki and you answered my question about the photoshopped header on this wiki. • Also, (if you have Moz Firefox, you don't have to answer) Did you notice a change in the Headings on the Main Page of the HTTYD Wiki. Do you like that? It does give it more of a fire/heat sorta look. I kind of like it.

Rhythm Heaven Wiki Affiliation edit

Hello, Spottedstar. I, Yamichidori1, an administrator on Rhythm Heaven Wiki, would like to apply for an affiliation with your wiki, Kung Fu Panda Wiki. Our wiki is beginning to grow but we would like more advertisement. As your wiki is very populated and open to requests to affiliations, I feel that I would like our wiki to affiliate with yours. It would likely increase traffic on both wikis and could be a very helpful affiliation. I await your answer and I will accept why you think that.

Thank you for accepting. We were planning on completely redoing the wordmark and I will be sure to contact you as soon as possible. And I planned on waiting to see if you would accept it or not before I added it and zi am currently adding the link to your wiki. 闇の千鳥1 (talkfanon) 20:54, October 4, 2012 (UTC)

Hi! To highlight all the great content on the Kung Fu Panda Wiki, we wanted to see if you were interested in exclusive video content from Wikia’s Video Library. We would be doing the bulk of the work by finding relevant great videos and embedding them on the wiki for you!

To draw attention to the high-quality videos Wikia currently has, we also wanted to ask if we could update a part of the Community Messages! We would also like to create a rotating gallery of videos on your mainpage, and an example of that can be seen here: http://ninokuni.wikia.com/wiki/Ni_No_Kuni_Wiki

Let us know if you have any questions or concerns about the suggestions!

Thanks for responding so quickly! To answer your questions, for the main page I was hoping to make a section for it, so, if you have a header for one, that would be great! As for the Community messages, would it be alright if I just created another section for it maybe at the top just so people have easy access to it and it would just give a link to our video library. For actual pages, I would add some more videos to the galleries you already have on the film pages and whatnot. I would add majority of things to the galleries you have set up separately if that is what you prefer. An example of what I am talking about can be found here where they have a film page and a separate film gallery page. I also created a video footer to link people to our library for more videos and that would hopefully go on the Kung Fu Panda movie pages as well! Let me know if you have any more questions and if it's alright for me to go ahead with the changes! Grace@fandom 22:42, November 16, 2012 (UTC)

Hi, Spotted Star! As you have probably noticed, I have been putting videos from our library onto Kung Fu Panda pages. I noticed that there are some duplicates with what I am putting up and what you have in galleries. Would it be alright if I went through and deleted the Youtube duplicates? With our videos, there is usually a little better quality and they are licensed so there is no chance of them getting taken down by our provider. Aside from that, I am almost done making the changes I mentioned to you before; the only thing left will be the main page videos :) Grace@fandom 18:53, November 19, 2012 (UTC)

Hi, just wondering how the header for the videos section is coming along? Grace@fandom 17:44, November 26, 2012 (UTC)

Great! I'll start adding everything and then we'll be all set :) Grace@fandom 22:25, November 26, 2012 (UTC)

Header Customizationedit

Hey! I wanted to ask how you are able to put a picture on your header? Can you guide me to doing this and tell me which css to add? (The Header Picture is the one behind the navigation bar and wiki wordmark) Thank You! Please reply asap :)
