This better be good. I was having a really fun nightmare.
—Jing to Nu Hai, "Enter the Dragon Master" from Kung Fu Panda: The Paws of Destiny

Jing is a young panda featured as one of the main characters in the Amazon Prime series Kung Fu Panda: The Paws of Destiny. She and three other panda children (Bao, Nu Hai, and Fan Tong) are members of the current Four Constellations by being in possession of the original members' chi, with Jing holding the chi of White Tiger.

Biography[]

In The Paws of Destiny[]

Jing is first introduced as a witty yet hot-headed panda who is friends with Bao, Nu Hai, and Fan Tong. Jing is always looking for a fight and prefers to solve her issues with violence.

Jing is one of the four pandas to absorb the chi of the Original Four Constellations after accidentally stumbling upon a cave underneath Panda Village. She absorbed the chi of White Tiger. Afterwards, she begs with her friends to Po in hopes that he'll teach them Kung Fu. When ambushed by Jade Tusk and her entourage- Jing and the other Four Constellations helped Po defeat them which finally convinced him to mentor them.

In "Blue Dragon Plays with Fire" when Po goes around trying to wake up the four pandas, Jing is so startled by his intrusion that she flings several ninja stars at him, scaring him to death. Despite this, she cheerfully greets him. Later, when Po shows the children their new Kung Fu dojo, she along with Bao and Fan Tong are less than thrilled about the poor state it's in. Po then sits the panda children down to tell them more about their hero Chi and the Four Constellations. He tells Jing about White Tiger and his cool and calm composure. Ironically, Jing isn't listening because she's too preoccupied trying to hit a fly out of the air with a mallet. The panda children then get into an argument about who got what hero Chi, which then Po explains that it's impossible to trade their Chi powers with each other.

Some time later Jing and the other panda children lead Po to a newly cleaned and renovated dojo. Po then attempts to give them basic training in Kung Fu. The panda children aren't terrible but don't excel either. Po congrats them on a good first week. Later as Nu Hai, Bao, Jing, and Fan Tong leave school, Nu Hai makes a statement that suggests that she is their leader because she inherited Blue Dragon's Chi- and he was leader of his own Four Constellations. The rest of the panda children aren't sold on her being the leader. Suddenly a goose-messenger named Ping rushes into Panda Village with an urgent message for Dragon Master Po: bandits have overtaken Wu-Ran Village and the local constable requests his help. Nu Hai immediately rushes forward and asserts herself and her friends as the Dragon Master's students- making sure to mention that she is the leader. She says that they will deliver the message to Po for him. Nu Hai mentions that since they weren't able to get their hero Chi to activate in the dojo, perhaps the high stakes of the bandit ambush might forcefully activate it for them. Bao asks Nu Hai if she remembers what Po said about "taking deep breaths," and not "getting ahead of yourself," Nu Hai brushes him off and strokes his ego a bit to get him to agree with her. They decide to save the town without enlisting Po's help.

The Four Constellations arrive at Wu-Ran Village to see a bunch of huge and aggressive Yak bandits terrorizing Pika villagers. Nu Hai tries to assert herself and yells at them to stop. Due to the panda children's small size and young age, the Yaks simply laugh at them. After Jing exacerbates the situation by throwing rocks at them, the Yak bandits slowly close in on them. Nu Hai hopes that the heat of battle will bring on their Chi, but nothing happens. Nu Hai admits that she might have gotten ahead of herself, and struggles to come up with a new plan. She starts to panic. Suddenly, she has a mystical vision of a blue dragon leading her to an alleyway. She quickly leads her friends into the alley and they narrowly avoid the Yak's attacks. Unfortunately, the Yak Bandit Leader intercepts their path and physically restrains Jing and Bao. Nu Hai and Fan Tong try to fight him but he knocks them down with ease. Seeing her friends and brother in distress quickly causes Nu Hai to panic, however, she remembers Po's earlier advice to "just take a breath. Focus." Nu Hai takes a big breath in and calms herself down. Suddenly she gains the clarity she needs to activate her Blue Dragon hero's Chi which allows her to take out the Yak Bandit Leader with a super-powered Chi punch- saving her friends. Po arrives at the scene and takes out the remaining Yak bandits before expressing his disappointment with the four panda's rash actions.

Personality[]

Jing is a little offbeat and unconventional, but these qualities can come in handy for a kung fu warrior. ... Jing absorbs the chi of the White Tiger, a healing chi that also teaches her the power of kindness over aggression.[1]

Jing has the heart of a soldier and is always on alert, ready for any situation. She's lovably odd and most likely to say something completely out of left field, and sometimes her offbeat way of looking at the world can even come in handy. Although she has a hard exterior, and a one-woman-army mentality, she learns to rely on others and trust her friends.[2]

Jing is characterized by her aggressiveness and uncouthness. She has quite the taste for bloodshed and violence and is always ready for a fight. Her sarcasm might put some people off but under that violent exterior is a compassionate soul that is ready and willing to fiercely protect her friends.

Fighting style and abilities[]

Like the other Four Constellations, Jing can harness the chi of White Tiger to perform special abilities. She has used her chi to expel a large energy blast capable of knocking back enemies and objects alike.

Jing has White Tiger Chi and is a master in modified tiger style kung fu. Her chi power specifically allows her to heal others and to pacify others of aggression.

Clothing[]

Jing wears an aquamarine-colored textured vest with yellow trim held together with three thick wooden pegs. Her vest is adorned with pseudo war medals custom-made by herself.[3] She also wears bright blue pants with a thick darker blue belt. A piece of green cloth with yellow trim hangs down her center. Her wrists and ankles are wrapped in bandages, and she has two red bands wrapped around her ears.

Trivia[]

  • Jing's name (traditional Chinese: 靜?; simplified Chinese: 静; pinyin: jìng) means "calm"[4], "quiet" and "still"[5]; this is in stark contrast with her personality, while also in reference to her future ability.
  • Jing was originally going to be named Gengi, but the name had to be changed for legal reasons.[6]
