"Sweetie, are you okay?"
"What's in the box, Shen?"
It wouldn't sound weird to a parent.
Anyhow...
"Gongmen is under the stewardship of the Masters' Council, and we will protect it even from you."
^ Shen is dead, man.
^ My thoughts exactly!
That lighthearted tone of the 3rd movie just wrecked all the excellent stuff that came before.
"I said FIRE at THEM! FIRE!!!"
Kill HIM!!! SOME-BODY KILL HIM!!!
"He was there! Okay? The peacock was there the last time I saw my parents! He knows what happened. Where I came from... who I am."
"I have to get to him..."
My thoughts exactly.
The fact that Shen wanted to turn something beautiful into a weapon showed the first signs of darkness.
When he heard of the prophecy and resorted to spilling the pandas' blood to save his hide showed more of the darkness in his heart.
And when he refused to change his ways after his parents banished him and instead continued with the ambition to conquer China was when he became truly evil.
I made a decision that would change my life forever... To make my soup without radishes... And to raise you as my own son... Xiao Po, my little panda.
At primary school, we always watch movies at the end of the year.
In the Summer of 2008, when I was 9, the original Kung Fu Panda was screened in my classroom, and me and my friends instantly fell in love with it the moment it began.
^ Holy crap, I accidentally said that Po was a villain. Major proofreading fail on my part.
Yeah, Po definitely didn't cause any genocide, that's for sure.
I don't want to argue with a guy/gal who agrees with my choice, but I just want to point out where i'm coming from.
Both Shen and Po were ambitious (Shen wants to build a great weapon, Po wants to learn Kung Fu).
Both Kung Fu and Cannons are deadly when armed in the wrong hands (Tai Lung with Kung Fu, Shen with the Cannons). Plus, one could defeat the other depending on the wielder (Shen defeated Rhino, Po defeated Shen).
Shen and Po both achieve their initial goals (Shen builds his cannons, Po learns Kung Fu). But Po uses his gift to protect and not to destroy.
Po can wield his power responsibly, while the more Shen takes, the less restraint the peacock has.
Both have loving parents, but Shen ultimately chose his dreams over his parents' happiness.
Shen snaps and lashes when faced with the root of his trauma, while Po overcomes it.
I'm pretty sure there are other similiarities and differences, but I think I've pretty much nailed the main bulk of it.
Kung Fu Panda 2 is the best to me (as well as having the honour of being my favorite film ever).
The characters were written perfectly.
The lore was written perfectly.
The story took itself seriously and wasn't over-hacked by comedy.
The villain (Shen) was perfect.
The hero (Po) was perfect.
The duality between Good and Evil was perfect. Shen and Po had a surprisingly thin line drawn between their moralities.
There was comedy, but it was hiding the fact that the film was a dramatic tragedy at heart.
Seriously, Kung Fu Panda 2 to me is the Best Film Ever.
(I even wrote an essay on it and got top marks for it!)
Your story may not have such a happy beginning, but that doesn't make you who you are. It is the rest of your story. Who you choose to be...
PS: I dont know any Star Wars fans have noticed but She has Sith eyes, this explains her personality
Really?
Because the 2nd Movie showed signs of a budding romance between her and Po.
