Day 18: Kung Fu Panda Video Games

Having done the franchise's shorts yesterday, we now move on to our next feature: the video games!

I don't have any personal experience with the franchise's video games (although one time I came very close to buying the first game), but I know they're pretty popular in the fandom, especially since I'm noticing all of the people mourning Kung Fu Panda World. The games are way for fans to interact with the Kung Fu Panda world and, in some cases (depending on what game you're looking at), to experience the same events as Po in the films/episodes. But the franchise isn't primarily a video game franchise like Call of Duty or Assassin's Creed or whatever else, so the games aren't "great" but still liked among its fans.

We're focusing again today on what you guys think about the franchise's games. This is another open discussion, but it's also an opportunity to share your opinions about them: What do you like/dislike about them? What kind of games and/or improvements are you hoping to see in the future?

And also, like yesterday, vote for your favorite game made so far!

Which Kung Fu Panda game is your favorite?

Well I just got to say that my first day for DS was Kung Fu Panda (1) and because it has to be played almost just with the pen, I practically learned how to use the DS... And I loved it!! I really like the games, they're pretty "authentic" and fit to the movies. And I hope there will be more of it! (Maybe for DS with more playable characters!)

I'd just say they just complete and perfect the Kung Fu Panda "appointments" and give us a idea of how it feels to be the Dragon Warrior! :-)

From the game i first time know about Kung Fu Panda, and after playing Kung Fu Panda : The Game, i'm starting to search about kung fu panda. In this game, the grapichs are so awesome, but i dislike it a bit, 'cause the middle story so much different from the movies. But after all, this just an awesome game. And i'm trying to practicing all the move in the game. I also beat Tai Lung more than 15 times.

This is a game that introducing the Kung Fu Panda usiverse to me :D

I don't have any KFP video games because I can't find any at my local gamestop and the only video game system I have is a Wii. The KFP video games I found were all for playstations and xboxes. I wish I had some games, maybe for my birthday :)

I have never had the pleasure to play Kung Fu Panda World. On the other hand I have played Kung Fu Panda : The video game, Kung Fu Panda : Showdown of legendary legends, and Kung Fu Panda : Battle of Destiny. My favorites are probably, Showdown of legendary legends and battle of destiny. :D

This is a list of the pros and cons of the games (In my own opinon) about 3 Kung Fu Panda games that I have played. Also, please note, there are SPOILERS if you haven't played the games yet, so don't read this unless you want to know before you play the game! Anyway, here we go:

Kung Fu Panda: The Game

Pros: The game has great platforming action and mechanics. Also, it shows new characters and new locations that are not in the film, making the story more exciting. The boss system of the game is fun, with attacking certain bosses and then pressing certain buttons to finish them off. The soundtrack of the game is awesome as well. Multiplayer is fun too, as you get to play as the main cast, as well as some of the enemy characters. Multiplayer also gives you fun gamemodes that you can play with other people.

Cons: In the story of the game, you mostly play as Po and Shifu. You do play as Monkey later on, but its only once and near the end of the game. The real problem I got is that Tigress' role is also very short: You only play as her once, and its just for a boss battle against the Iron Ox machine (called the Juggernaut in the game). She doesn't get to fight enemies, and you don't play as her again in key moments (such as when you battle Tai Lung). Maybe if they added more levels where you could play as Tigress and Monkey, then I think the game would be a whole lot better (Not saying that its not fun already).

Kung Fu Panda: Legendary Warriors

Pros: Aside from the AWESOME menu music, I like how you can play as any of the four characters (Po, Shifu, Tigress, and Monkey). I like how the levels play out and that you can play fun minigames (aside from the final boss level, where you fight Tai Lung). In the minigames, you have to complete different tasks, and its fun to hear the character you've chosen comment about said tasks. The combat system of the game is interesting, as you can use Chi attacks and do epic combos. The soundtrack in the levels is absolutely beautiful, and it can soothe you or give you an epic feel as you play and battle. Finally, I like how you can fight Tai Lung in the end as any character (which gave me what I always wanted: to see Tigress battle Tai Lung in an epic final battle).

Cons: When you do a chi attack or while playing a minigame, there are sometimes certain patterns you have to draw by flicking the Wii remote in different directions. Sometimes, it doesn't register when you try it, which can lead to you either losing a minigame or a fight with an enemy. Also, the cutscenes are somewhat low budget, as they are just stills of the characters talking and not moving a lot. Still though, aside from those things, the game isn't all that bad.

Kung Fu Panda: Showdown of Legendary Legends

(This isn't really Pros & Cons, but a collection of ideas.)

The game is similar to Super Smash Bros, but with Kung Fu Panda characters. This gives a familar feel, as I have played SSB before. However, although the roster is impressive, there are certain characters that they should've included (such as Master Thundering Rhino). There is DLC for the game, including new characters and costumes. However, I sort of think that they should've just put the DLC characters in the game, and then release the game when Kung Fu Panda 3 came out in theaters. Speaking of DLC, it would be cool if there was a DLC Costume for Tigress in her original clothing (as she is wearing her new clothing from Kung Fu Panda 3 in the game). Finally, it would've been cool if you could do Tournaments and unlock different characters along the way, instead of them being already unlocked in the beginning. This would give people a sort of push into playing the game.
